This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
The F4U-1D was developed and operated as one of the main carrier-based fighters of the U.S. Navy during World War II. The prototype made its first flight in May 1940; the mass-produced version first flew in June 1942, and began operation in December of the same year. It was equipped with a 2000-horsepower-class Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine. Although it was equipped with a large-diameter propeller, its main feature was its airframe design with an inverted gull-type wing that was adopted to shorten the landing gear. Initially deployed to the U.S. Marine Corps, it was active in the Pacific Theater, and then operated as a carrier-based fighter in the Navy; it was also provided to Britain and France, and was active on each front. It continued to operate after the war, and demonstrated its power in the Korean War as well. Each type of Corsair was made with various combinations of weapons and equipment, but among them, the F4U-1D is the type with an improved engine and landing gear.
This model kit from Waltersons reproduces the F4U-1D Corsair, an American warship fighter of World War II. The kit’s parts are cast in plastic matching the U.S. Navy’s color FS15042. The unique reverse gull-wing type main wing design and shape of the aircraft are faithfully reproduced, down to the panel lines. The canopy is made of clear parts so you can inspect the cockpit interior after completion; a pilot figure is also included. The landing gear can be built in landed or flight position; decals for its markings are included, as are decals for damage such as bullet holes. Order yours today!
