The U-2 is a high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft designed by Lockheed’s in-house secret development department, Skunk Works, and operated by the U.S. Air Force, the CIA, and the Taiwan Air Force. It was developed based on the F-104, and made its first flight in 1955. It can fly at an altitude of 20,000 meters or more, is equipped with a special camera, and was active in collecting information on the communist bloc, such as the Soviet Union, during the Cold War. The U.S. Air Force still operates modified versions of this aircraft.
