This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.

The first jet trainer developed in Japan after World War II was the T-1. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force needed a jet aircraft for secondary training, necessary for the postwar pilot training program. Developed by Fuji Heavy Industries, the T-1 had a tandem layout seat arrangement, as well as the ambitious design of swept wings. The first prototype made its first flight in 1958. After the domestic turbojet engine known as J3 entered mass production, the T-1’s engine was converted to the J3; T-1s equipped with this engine were designed T-1B, and 20 of this aircraft were produced and deployed from 1962-63. The T-1 ended its role in 1998, when the successor T-4 was deployed. On March 3, 2006, four aircraft from the 5th Technical School, which had been in operation until the end of the T-1’s life, carried out a commemorative last flight at Komaki Base. Among them, Unit 863 was given special markings for the last flight.

This model kit from Platz brings us a T-1B equipped with a domestic engine, wearing the markings of Unit 863 from the final flight at Komaki Base on March 3, 2006.
