This model kit from Airfix is a completely new mold!
The deHavilland Mosquito was a bomber operated by the Royal Air Force during World War II, and in addition to bomber/fighter types, nightfighter types and reconnaissance aircraft types were also made. It is a parallel double-seat machine, with one Merlin engine on each wing and the pilot and navigator sitting side-by-side in the cockpit. Its mostly wooden construction made it difficult for radar to see.
The prototype made its maiden flight in 1940, and the B Mk.X VI, equipped with a pressurizer for high-altitude operation, was the most produced bomber type. The Mosquito was mostly used as light night-attack units, which carried out high-speed night bombing with accurate aim and navigation. It also participated in many bombing operations as a pathfinder to mark targets with flares for follow-up by heavy bombers. The Mosquito was used not only by the Royal Air Force, but also by the U.S. Army Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force, Canadian Air Force, New Zealand Air Force, Israeli Air Force, Belgium, Burma, Republic of China, Czechoslovakia, France, Norway, South Africa, Soviet Union, Sweden and Turkey; it was also used in Yugoslavia and Dominica, and was manufactured until 1950.
