The F-2 is an advanced training aircraft that has trained many elite pilots of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, protecting the skies of Japan. It was the first supersonic aircraft to be developed in Japan, too; it first flew in 1971, started operation in 1974, and was active until 2006. It’s equipped with two TF40-IHI-801A turbofan engines from Ishikawajima Harima Heavy Industries, and it was capable of a maximum speed of Mach 1.6. It was divided into the early type, which was used for teaching the basics of combat maneuvering without armaments, and the late type, which was used for combat training. It’s said that 450 pilots had been trained with the T-2 by the time they retired, and the T-2 is considered a masterpiece aircraft for pilot traning.
