The MiG-21 is a Soviet masterpiece fighter that has been in operation since 1959, and was still in service in the 2000s. The first flight of the prototype was in 1955l in 1956, the official designation MiG-21 was given. The first mass-produced model was called the MiG-21F, and later improved versions were introduced. Among them, the MiG-21bis can be said to be the completed form of the MiG-21. The MiG-21bis first flew in 1971. Its engine is one Tumanski R-25-300 turbojet, and its maximum speed was 2,175km/h. It was armed with one 23mm GSh-23L machine gun as a fixed armament. It was also equipped with 4 hardpoints and could carry up to 1,300kg of additional weapons; it was active in the 1970s and 1980s as the main fighter of the Soviet Air Force. It was also deployed to the Finnish Air Force and others, and was operated as an interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft from 1978 to 1998.

This model kit from Platz reproduces the Soviet masterpiece fighter MiG-21bis, which was the main force from the ’70s to the ’80s. It accurately reproduces the silhouette of the MiG-21 Fishbed, which has an air intake in the nose with a delta wing. The parts are made by Eduard. The hump from the rear of the cockpit to the vertical tail is reproduced with a separate part to accurately express the shape of the aircraft.
