The Boeing 720 was developed as a mid-range type of second-generation passenger jet aircraft; it was very successful after the war. Its body was made shorter and lighter than that of the 707. Since there were many competitors, and since the 727 was put into service immediately as well, this aircraft was not produced in great numbers.
