Japan’s main aircraft, the F-15J Eagle, is based on the U.S. Air Force’s F-15C which began combat deployment in 1974, and is equipped with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s unique equipment. Deployment of units began in 1982, and it still plays a major role in the air defense of Japan. Amid the recent international situation, the JASDF is conducting joint training exercises to deepen cooperation with various countries. In July 2023, joint training with the French Aerospace Forces were held for the first time. Rafael fighter jets arrived in Japan from France, attracting much attention. The F-15J that participated in this training session appeared with special livery markings welcoming the French Aerospace Forces. The special paintwork expressed the friendship between France and Japan with an arrangement of the French and Japanese flags, with the message “Friendship between Japan and France” written in French.
