The F-15J Eagle is based on the U.S. Air Force’s F-15C, which began combat deployment in 1974, and is equipped with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s unique equipment, including its own tactical electronic warfare system, J/TEWS, and the same proprietary data. Deployment began in 1982, and it still plays a major role in the air defense of Japan. At the Chitose Air Base Air Festival held in July 2023, a specially painted aircraft with the emblem of “Chitose, the City of the Sky” on its tail was unveiled to commemorate the 97th anniversary of the opening of the port!
