1/72 Imperial Japanese Navy Planned Interceptor Mitsubishi A7M2

Description

This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.

Developed as a successor to the Zero Fighter, the A7M2 was the Imperial Japanese Navy’s last fighter plane. The prototype was completed in April 1944, but due to a malfunction of the Homare engine, it did not achieve the expected performance; the prototype ran into difficulties and at one point it was even in doubt whether it would be adopted. The engine was quickly replaced with a Mitsubishi MK9 (Ha-43) engine, which allowed it to exhibit high performance; it was adopted as the Reppu Model 11. However, the war ended before the mass production phase was completed.

Decals for a total of six versions are included — three historical markings, including the No. 3 aircraft received from the Air Technical Arsenal, and three “what-if” markings based on what would have happened if the plan had been deployed in actual combat. The packaging art depicts an aerial battle with the U.S. Navy’s new F8F, a plane that never actually occurred.
