The British Supermarine “Spitfire,” probably the best-known fighter of WWII, was one of the most beautiful aircraft of all time. The “Spitfire” Mk.IX appeared in 1942 in response to the new German Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A fighter. The “Spitfire” Mk.IX was reliable in service and relatively easy to maintain. It possessed excellent flight characteristics and was better armed and armored than previous marks.
It was also extremely versatile. The “Spitfire” Mk.IX was deployed in many different roles — low-altitude (LF), universal (F), high-altitude (HF) fighters as well as fighter-bombers. The “Spitfire” Mk.IX was in service with the RAF, USAF, USSR, Australia, Canada, France, and many other states.
