1/72 Ilyushin IL-2 Stormovik “Tank Hunter”

This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.

A nice kit of the original Stormovik (aka Shturmovik) “tank killer”, the Il-2. This kit features fine recessed panel lines, perhaps a bit too fine as they all but disappear in a couple of places. Cockpit detail is simple but quite complete and effective – no doubt much like the prototype. Pay attention when building, as the instructions show sprue silhouettes with parts marked as “not for use” when you will need them after all! Lots of tiny bombs and rockets are included, however they are not for this kit as this version includes two very formidable-looking 37mm cannon pods. Perhaps an idea picked up from the German Ju87Gs? Decals are for two aircraft, “16” of the 8th Guards Assault Aviation regiment and “24” of the 23rd Special Assault Aviation Regiment.
